Enable end users to activate, deactivate, and update licenses on devices that can't connect directly to the internet.
LicenseSpring's Offline Portal gives you a secure, structured way to support offline and air-gapped environments without turning every licensing request into a manual support ticket.

Developer-first APIs & SDKsNot every customer environment has reliable connectivity. In regulated, secure, or infrastructure-constrained settings, software still needs to be activated, managed, and updated.
LicenseSpring's Offline Portal supports vendors handling offline licensing workflows for:
This applies to all activation mechanisms. The separation between activation and license checks gives you precise control over how connectivity requirements map to your customers' deployment realities.
1. Activation is the process of binding a license to something, typically a device. This can happen online or offline, depending on your customer's environment. LicenseSpring supports both paths.
2. Local license checks are what happen after activation. Once a license is activated, LicenseSpring's SDKs generate and store a signed local license file on the device. Your application can then validate the license locally, with no connection to LicenseSpring required at runtime.
Fully offline after activation—license checks run locally until the license expires, with no requirement to phone home
Periodic online validation—require a check-in on a schedule you define
Online activation, offline runtime—activate over the internet on first launch, then run entirely on local license checks thereafter
The Offline Portal handles the operational tasks that matter most in disconnected environments.
Offline licensing is often where homegrown systems break down. Manual processes, inconsistent deactivation workflows, and no clean path for entitlement updates create support burden fast.
LicenseSpring gives your team and your customers a repeatable process to follow. With the Offline Portal, you can:
Support offline node-locking workflows
Handle offline deactivation cleanly
Handle offline deactivation cleanly
Update consumption-based licenses in disconnected environments
Extend licensing to customers on regulated or restricted networks
Issue a License
Configure the SDK to Activate Offline
End User Enters the License in the App
Import the License FileOffline deployments still need flexibility. When a customer's entitlements change, retrieve an updated license refresh file from the Vendor Platform and send it to the user directly.
When a user needs to move a license to a new machine, the Offline Portal handles the deactivation workflow. The user uncouples the license from the current device, which generates a deactivation file. Once uploaded through the Offline Portal, the license is released and available for activation elsewhere.
Vendors retain full visibility into entitlement state throughout, with no manual reconciliation required.
Offline deployment doesn't mean giving up usage-based monetization. LicenseSpring supports updating total consumptions and feature consumptions even when devices operate disconnected from the server.
If a license includes consumption-based limits, consumption features, or cached usage values gathered offline, the deactivation file can carry that cached data. Once submitted, those values are applied to the license record on the server.
Vendors can also send updated refresh files periodically to deliver new entitlements or revised usage allowances, keeping consumption models accurate without requiring constant connectivity.
LicenseSpring's Offline Portal is purpose-built for vendors whose customers operate in environments where connectivity is limited or prohibited.
Common deployment contexts include:
Industrial systems on restricted networks
Defense and government deployments
Medical and healthcare environments
On-premise enterprise software installations
Field systems with intermittent or no internet connectivity
Need a more branded experience for your customers? LicenseSpring can white-label the Offline Portal on your own subdomain, keeping offline activation workflows simple and secure while presenting a consistent experience under your brand.
LicenseSpring handles the licensing infrastructure so you don't have to build it. Whether your customers are always online or never online, the same platform covers the full range.
