Generating keys by hand, emailing licenses, and processing plan changes one by one are manageable at a small scale, but unsustainable as you grow. LicenseSpring gives you API-driven licensing infrastructure that automates the entire licensing lifecycle, from the moment of purchase through expiration, renewal, and revocation, without manual intervention at any stage.

Developer-first APIs & SDKsCommon bottlenecks include:
Manually generating license keys and delivering them to customers
Sending license updates when customers upgrade or change plans
Processing activation resets and device transfer requests via support tickets
Managing license transfers and expiration enforcement by hand
Maintaining entitlement accuracy across multiple systems without a single source of truth
License Policies are reusable entitlement templates that define the full configuration for a given product plan or pricing tier, including feature access, validity period, activation limits, usage rules, and subscription terms, all with a unique SKU code. When a license is created using a policy, the entire entitlement set is applied automatically from the template.
This makes license provisioning dramatically simpler to automate: instead of specifying every entitlement individually on each transaction, you reference the appropriate policy SKU and every detail is handled. Looking up a SKU tells you immediately exactly what entitlements were used to create any license, including what plan or tier a customer is on, what features they have access to, and what limits apply.
License Policies also reduce configuration error: for products with many features and custom fields sold in a few standard combinations, policies prevent the kind of entitlement mistakes that occur when each license is configured manually. License policy codes can also be added directly as attributes to billing platform products, so that any subscription created through that price automatically generates a license using the correct policy.
Stripe subscription created → license issued using the policy SKU attached to that price
Customer upgrades plan → entitlements updated by switching to a new policy SKU
New order created via API → policy SKU specifies the full entitlement set without per-field configuration
Support team looks up a customer license → SKU immediately shows which plan and tier applies
Licenses can be created automatically at the moment of purchase with no manual vendor involvement and no delay between payment and product access. Applications can trigger provisioning via API, or provisioning can be handled entirely by billing and e-commerce integrations.
Automatic license generation after purchase confirmation
Instant license delivery to customers at checkout
API-driven license creation from within the application
Automated provisioning triggered through e-commerce platforms
LicenseSpring provides REST APIs and native SDKs that allow applications and internal systems to interact programmatically with every aspect of the licensing platform.
Programmatic license generation and delivery
Automated license validation at application runtime
Dynamic entitlement updates triggered by plan changes
Integration with internal operational and billing systems
Disconnected licensing and billing systems are the most common cause of manual provisioning workflows. LicenseSpring integrates with the sales and billing platforms software vendors already use, so licensing events are triggered automatically by commercial events rather than requiring manual bridging between systems.
