What You Can Implement With LicenseSpring SDKs

LicenseSpring SDKs give you the building blocks for production-grade software licensing regardless of stack or deployment environment.

  • License activation and validation: Activate licenses on first launch and validate them at runtime, online or offline
  • Feature-flag enforcement: Gate features by license tier or entitlement at the SDK level
  • Floating license management: Control concurrent seat usage from a shared license pool
  • Consumption and usage metering: Track API calls, compute time, credits, or custom usage units
  • Offline and air-gapped operation: Support file-exchange (offline) and code-exchange (air-gapped) activation flows without persistent connectivity
  • Hardware-bound licensing: Anchor licenses to specific devices using hardware fingerprints, or self-provision YubiKey-based hardware licenses
  • Platform state sync: Keep license state synchronized with the LicenseSpring platform in real time
SDK Capabilities

Core SDK Capabilities

Every LicenseSpring SDK ships with a consistent set of foundational capabilities designed for real-world deployment conditions.

Hardware ID Generation

Each SDK includes multiple algorithms for computing a unique, persistent hardware identifier based on the environment where the software runs. The appropriate algorithm is selected for the deployment context, whether that's a physical workstation, a virtual machine, a containerized environment, or a mobile device, ensuring stable device binding without manual configuration.

Offline License Validation and Grace Periods

All SDKs support local license checks that run without a live server connection. You can configure grace periods that define how long the SDK will honor a cached license before requiring an online revalidation. This covers both intentional offline deployments and unplanned connectivity loss, so a temporary network outage never interrupts a paying user's session.

Cross-SDK Interoperability

Products built across multiple components or platforms can use more than one LicenseSpring SDK simultaneously. All SDKs share a common license file format and compute hardware identifiers using the same underlying logic, so a license issued to a device is recognized consistently across every part of your product, regardless of which SDK each component uses.
Licensing Models

Supported Licensing Models

LicenseSpring SDKs support every major commercial licensing model. Choose the model that fits your product and enforcement requirements.

LicenseSpring

Node-Locked Licensing

Bind a license to a specific device using hardware fingerprints. Ideal for desktop software, engineering tools, and commercial productivity applications.

Consumption-Based Licensing

Meter usage against defined limits, including API calls, compute time, processing workloads, or custom credit units. Supports modern SaaS and AI/ML billing models.

Floating Licensing

Issue a shared license pool and let users check out seats as needed. The right model for enterprise environments, concurrent-use software, and shared workstations, including containerized and virtualized deployments where hardware fingerprinting isn't applicable.

Offline and Air-Gapped Licensing

Two distinct activation paths for disconnected environments: offline activation uses a file-exchange flow; air-gapped activation uses a code-exchange flow for environments with no external data transfer. Built for secure facilities, industrial networks, and defense deployments.

Built for Modern Architectures

Built for Modern Software Architectures

LicenseSpring SDKs are designed to integrate cleanly across every major deployment model with no forced architectural compromises.
